Gail Doby, ASID

Chief Vision Officer & Interior Design Muse

After graduating with a BSBA from the University of Arkansas, I was a sales and marketing representative for the carpet division of a Fortune 500 company, Armstrong World Industries. I lived in Oklahoma City and Houston – and called on architects and interior designers to specify commercial products.

For the next 4 ½ years, I worked for an Armstrong carpet and flooring distributor calling on architects and designers.

After that, I worked for American Airlines while they were designing a new online reservation system with Marriott, Budget Rent-A-Car and Hilton Hotels. It was my first paid design project. The first day on the job, I looked at the color board for the office space we were designing. Pepto Bismol pink was specified for the break room wall color, and the next day, I met with the project designer to reselect.
After that contract was complete, I moved to Denver where I met my future husband. While I was deciding about my next step, one of my friends called and asked if I would fly to Cleveland to design her home. That is when I decided to get my design degree.

While in design school, I started Renaissance Design, Inc (August 15, 1992) which was named in honor of my mother - a true Renaissance woman.

Personal Tidbits
  • My husband, Harry, provides technical support on the weekends. We are also fortunate to have two married nieces that live in Denver with two beautiful children each. Our cats, Boris and Tasha are our children.
  • I am a fanatic for learning, love to travel (favorites are Sydney Australia, New Zealand, San Francisco, Germany and Switzerland), occasionally cook and entertain, love movies and music including classical, jazz, R & B, Beatles, rock and a few other random styles.
  • One of my favorite stories is about flying over the Surrey countryside in the oldest bi-plane in England. We buzzed the house that was once owned by Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. and Mary Pickford. Later, we had tea in the back yard of the same house – it was owned by a general contractor who preserved the original character of the actors.
